Kitchen Decisions | Sink: Drop-in or Apron-front
Every kitchen needs a sink, when it comes to selecting these necessary staples, style is considered secondary. It’s important to primarily consider how the sink will function. Kitchen sinks are made with a variety of material ranging from stainless steel to cast iron, options are again, endless. If you are in the market for a new sink, consider these terms before you buy:
We found an article in a recent issue of HGTV Magazine where they asked Professional, Chip Wade, his opinion on choosing between a drop-in and an apron-front sink. According to HGTV readers, 53% chose an apron-front sink, while 48% chose a drop-in sink.
Kitchen Decisions from the Professionals
Professional Chip Wade, from Elbow Room, stated that:
“Although they’re usually pricier than drop-ins, I love the practicality of apron-front sinks. They jut out farther thank the countertop, which makes dishwashing more comfortable—water doesn’t splash around everywhere. Even better: They’re available in a range of styles, not just farmhouse rustic.â€
We agree with Chip Wade, apron-front sinks are not only stylish but are also very practical. If the ease of cleanup were important, I would opt for an apron-front sink. Apron-front sinks also can be more accessible for those with kids and for people of shorter stature. Apron-front sinks make a deliberate design statement that will impress anyone that comes into your home. Can you argue that a sink performs for many different tasks? With that said, be very careful when choosing a kitchen sink, the wrong sink will ruin the kitchen.
